Determining the Factorizability of Hard Scattering Cross-Sections

چکیده
The rules of soft-collinear effective theory can be used naı̈vely to write hard scattering cross-sections as convolutions of separate hard, jet, and soft functions. We describe an intuitive method to determine, at a given order in perturbation theory, whether these functions are truly infrared safe or not and, thus, whether or not the cross-sections factorize. Using angularity distributions as an illustrative example, we look for regions of integration in the sum of Feynman diagrams contributing to the jet and soft functions where the integrals become infrared divergent. Our analysis is independent of an explicit infrared regulator, and simultaneously clarifies how to distinguish infrared and ultraviolet singularities when pure dimensional regularization is used to regulate both.

Calculation of the triple and double cross sections in the proton-hydrogen impact at the ionization channel by removing singularity in the scattering amplitudes
In the present work, the triple and double cross sections of atomic hydrogen ionization in collision with the proton are calculated. The potential of the interaction is considered as a Coulombic; also, the first and second order Born approximations have been used. The singularity of the Green operator in the second order approximation has been removed for the analytical solution of the scatt...

Scattering of 15N ions with the energy of Elab = 23 MeV on the CH2(Au) target is investigated. Elastic scattering of these ions in the angular range of 7°-19° was measured by employing the silicon strip detector, “LEDA”. Using the measured scattering data, deviation of ion beam, number of incident ions on the target and differential cross sections of the 12C(15N, 15N)12C elastic scattering in ...
متن کاملBinary–single-star Scattering — Vi. Automatic Determination of Interaction Cross Sections
Scattering encounters between binaries and single stars play a central role in determining the dynamical evolution of a star cluster. In addition, three-body scattering can give rise to many interesting exceptional objects: merging can produce blue stragglers; exchange can produce binaries containing millisecond pulsars in environments quite different from those in which the pulsars were spun u...
متن کاملSingle spin asymmetries in hadron-hadron collisions
We study weighted azimuthal single spin asymmetries in hadron-hadron scattering using the diagrammatic approach at leading order and assuming factorization. The effects of the intrinsic transverse momenta of the partons are taken into account. We show that the way in which T -odd functions, such as the Sivers function, appear in these processes does not merely involve a sign flip when compared ...
متن کاملTotal electron scattering cross sections for pyrimidine and pyrazine as measured using a magnetically confined experimental system
In this paper, a recently constructed apparatus for measuring electron scattering cross sections while applying a strong axial magnetic field is utilized for determining total scattering cross sections. The first molecules studied with this setup are pyrimidine (1,3-diazine) and pyrazine (1,4-diazine), whose total cross sections are obtained for the incident electron energy range of 8-500 eV. Q...
